Volvo Ocean Race Arrives in Lisbon

28 October 2017 ,

On Saturday afternoon, the 28th of October, Vestas 11th Hour Racing sailed up the Tagus river in light winds to win the first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race 2017

It was a warm sunny day with uncharacteristically light winds on the Tejo when we watched Vestas cross the finish line, aboard the classic Dutch Barge Westenwind. Having sailed most of  the 1650 NM leg from Alicante to Lisbon at the head of the fleet, Vestas has to fend off Mapfre who came up close behind them. In that afternoon’s fickle winds and against the outgoing current, Vestas saw their 34 NM lead reduced to a 10 NM lead when they crossed the line. See more at www.volvooceanrace.com
